About This Project

This intervention concerns the roof renovation of a village house. It is located in the heart of Ayer, near the church. The building sits within a protected site area.

The project focuses exclusively on bringing the roof into compliance. It also respects the architectural character of the historic built fabric.

Previously, the unrenovated zinc sheet metal roof showed insufficient thermal performance. Builders completely reconstructed the roof to incorporate modern insulation. This upgrade perfectly preserves the slenderness and traditional expression of the roof.

In accordance with heritage requirements, the new covering features larch wood shingles. A slight adjustment to the roof pitch improves water drainage. It also enhances the overall proportions of the volume.

Existing dormers were preserved and better integrated into the new roof geometry. Furthermore, new copper downpipes replaced the former zinc ones in their exact original locations.

This project also reactivated the trace of a former balcony visible in the structure. Now, the intervention allows the creation of a terrace offering a remarkable view of the Imperial Crown.
